About
Abbey Winters is a semi-traditional folk musician, located in Madison County, NC. As an old-time musician, she is dedicated to the preservation of traditional music. As much as she has a deep love for traditional folk music, she is also passionate about modern folk music and works to combine the messages and feelings of folk music from the past and the present into its own original sound. Her set lists consist of an amalgamation of Ola Belle Reed, Sierra Ferrell, originals, and many, many more artists she looks up to. Abbey is dedicated to sharing traditional music to her audiences and to her students and expressing the importance and relevance of the genre she loves so dearly.

Abbey spent her younger years in rural Alaska, surrounded by snowcapped mountains and the smell of the ocean. Her family loved hiking, fishing and adventures. Their adventures eventually led them across the country to the Appalachian Mountains in Madison County, NC. This is where Abbey’s love for music was truly awakened.

With no community and nothing familiar to her, she was enrolled in the JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) Program shortly after arriving in Madison County. The JAM Program quickly became home to her, giving her friends, community and something to call her own. Traditional music told many stories of hard times, pride for the mountains the singers called home, and longing for what had been left behind. Singing these songs helped her feel seen and understood, and she quickly fell in love. Since graduating from the JAM Program, she continues to study old time music at East Tennessee State University, where she will graduate with a degree in Bluegrass, Old Time and Roots Music.
